Do I Need An Ultrasound?
If you received a positive pregnancy test and your results are confirmed, an ultrasound is needed to confirm your pregnancy details from a medical professional. Ultrasounds provide crucial information about your health, well-being, and options for your pregnancy in the decision process.
Confirm Your Pregnancy Details
Knowing what to do with your pregnancy can be overwhelming, but here are three reasons why an ultrasound is necessary:
1. Know How Far Along You Are
Depending on how far along you are, will determine what pregnancy options may be available to you. Many women are inaccurate with the date of their last period. Birth control can also be a factor in dating as well. Get an ultrasound to be sure.
2. Confirm Pregnancy Location
Ectopic pregnancies happen when a pregnancy develops outside of the uterus, which can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated by a provider right away. Be sure to seek emergency medical help if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Vaginal bleeding
- Severe abdominal or pelvic pain
- Lightheadedness or fainting
- Shoulder pain
3. Learn of Any Possible Complications
It’s not uncommon for women to experience pregnancy complications. An ultrasound can alert you if there is a heartbeat. One in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and most in the first trimester. Potential symptoms of a miscarriage include:
- Pain or cramping in your lower back or abdomen
- Vaginal spotting or bleeding
- Fluid or tissue passing from your vagina
